Permission slips for Festival Assessment (Monday March 9th) will be coming out this coming week or the following. For now, please note in your calendars that, due to the performance times given to us by the Music Office, parent pickup will be required at 4PM that day after school.

In our classes, we watched a documentary called Big Voice and it's really inspired a lot of our kids. They have lots of great ideas, and I'm excited to try to implement some of them. I would love to do a retreat of some kind with the kids, and they seem equally as excited to do something of the sort. I've been part of many over my years with different groups, and they go a long way in learning the music, and more importantly, creating bonds with one another. They are scared to sing in front of others unless they completely trust the people around them. While I think an overnight retreat is a bit out of our bounds as a middle school group, I would love to do a two-part retreat on a Friday afternoon and Saturday for the 7th & 8th grade group. If it goes well, I'd also like to do one later with the 6th grade. If it continues to go well, I'd like to do one at the end of the year with the current 7th & 6th grade, as they'll become next years' 7th & 8th grade ensemble.
I'd like to tentatively schedule the 7th & 8th grade retreat for Friday February 21st from after school until pickup happens at 7, and then Saturday February 22nd from 1PM-5PM. I realize that many people will have other rehearsals, practices, and commitments of the like. This is not a mandatory activity, but it is HIGHLY suggested. We are bound to have a great time, and again this is the kids that pitched the idea to me, and I think it's fantastic!
I will have these permission forms next week. If you have ideas or thoughts to share, as well as questions to ask, please contact me!
Thanks so much, Megan
