Choir Uniform Lookbook
What should I be wearing for performances?
Tops
One of the tops purchased through the school.

Bottoms

Black dress pants, or a black skirt that is at least knee length.

Shoes
Black dress shoes. Flats are recommended, but small heels are okay as well.

Etc.

It is considered common etiquette in choral performance for hair to be pulled out of the face and red lipstick to be worn for those who feel comfortable doing so. This way the facial emotions of the performers can be better seen by the audience. In other news, it is HIGHLY ADVISED that performers wear deodorant...but NOT perfume, as other performers can have sensitivities and end up having allergic reactions during the performance.

NO GO ITEMS during a performance

re: this whole "uniform" thing
I get it. It feels weird having to wear something without having a say in it. You're being told what to wear and how to dress and what is and isn't appropriate. Geez, I basically decreed that foregoing deodorant is not an option.
Let me be very clear: this is not an attempt to stifle your personality, or how you display your character through how you look physically. In the nicest way possible, I mean to say "It's not about you." Because it's about US. As a performing group, it does so much for our own confidence and the perception of the audience when we look uniform. I cannot stress how much I understand and VALUE each of you as individuals. Without differences, the world would be pretty boring. Our unique facets, including how we choose to dress, help us to make sense of the world around us and let a little bit of ourselves out into the universe. You might even be trying to figure out who you are right now, and you're not exactly sure what it is you want to wear, but you KNOW it sure as heck isn't this!!!

If you ever have concerns about the performance dress code, please come talk to me right away. We will reach a compromise together for sure. Just know that my heart is truly in your best interests, and I hope you don't hate me too much. 😘 If you don't already, one day you'll understand.

Much love,
Ms. Louder
