Week 7 Weekly Announcements

1A FLEX Fix:

  • My dearest 1A humans: please read my message in the Stream about what happened for FLEX today, and how we'll make the class up.

Spreadshirt:

  • The holidays fast approacheth! If you weren't already aware, we have gear available that helps fund our choral activities! (Purchasing of sheet music, tech for performances, etc. - plus the gear is just COOL.) The link is here. An alternate way to get there is by visiting our website, navigate to Odds & Ends on the toolbar, and click the big blue box in the top right corner that says "Shop".

  • More items have been added in the past few weeks which are now available, I'm uploading some new logos over the next week or so, and all items (new and old) are available in fun new colors and patterns!

  • If you want a different family member name, I'd be more than happy to make a logo that says it! Just reach out and let me know!

This week's homework:

  • Reading a two-minute article.

  • Take a video of them doing the hand signs and singing a major scale.

    • Has to be a video, not an audio recording on Vocaroo, because I wouldn't be able to see them doing the hand signs.

    • Directions on how to do the whole "video taking" process is in the Resources section of Google Classroom.

    • Use the Chrome Music Lab link to find your starting pitch/help you sing the scale.

Redo Policy Reminder:

  • Don't forget, the redo policy is that anything can be redone at any time, as many times as necessary. Homework: can be unsubmitted, edited, and resubmitted without any interaction with me. I will get a notification that someone submitted something new, and I need to go grade it. Knowledge Checks: the link to redo these can be gotten from me. Simply contact me one of the various ways.

Grading:

  • I am working diligently to keep the gradebook up to date with redos, as well as weekly assignment and knowledge checks. My goal is to be 100% up to date by Wednesday 10/28. Thank you for your patience as I work through the literal thousands of assignments I have to grade.

For Fun:

Want to be a better singer, faster!?

Typically, this kind of claim would be ridiculous. As they say, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. However, I found two apps this week that are fun, FREE, and work to solidify the most fundamental musical skills. They are called "Chet - ear training" and "Ella - sight singing". If you look them up in the Google Play Store, App Store, etc you will be able to find them. In the coming weeks I will be making a list of apps and websites that are great resources for your kids to practice with!

(also check out https://www.rhythmrandomizer.com/ for them to work on sight reading rhythms - a skill we've been working on the past few weeks!)
