Hi everyone -
Firstly, if you came to back-to-school night, thank you so much for being there - from the initial numbers, it was the best attended one CBMS has ever had!
This week's business:
Week 3s lesson covered:
Review of All County audition procedures & reminder to read the announcements every week
Lesson on Musical Literacy: What is literacy, where are we successful and where do we need more work, continuing music-reading skills
Good Posture Habits
How the breathing mechanism works and how that makes us better singers
Why warmups are important
We warmed up, and then we quickly skimmed 2 songs that will be in our virtual winter concert!
And don't forget, a recap lesson can be found in Google Classroom by going to Classwork --> Class Recordings topic --> Click the video for the appropriate week.
Week 3s homework assignment is:
6th grade: audio or video recording of yourself singing measures 5-13 of Winter Wonders on text, neutral syllable, or while humming
7th & 8th grade: audio or video recording of yourself singing measures 5-20 of Swingin' with Santa C! on text, neutral syllable, or while humming
How to Record:
record on vocaroo.com
copy & paste the link into a comment on the assignment on Google Classroom OR download the recording file, then upload it to Google Classroom with "Add or Create".
A Preview into Week 4:
Figuring out our voice parts
Working more on our music
More details on reading music
Monday Classes:
Please watch the video I post for Week 3's lesson sometime before we see each other again on October 5th. And yes, you still have an assignment due on October 5th. (But it's not difficult, I promise!)
All County Choir:
Go to the Week 2 Slides under the "For Class" topic, and find the slides about All County
If you need 1-on-1 help with the application process, reach out and we can schedule a Meet!
If you'd like to send the application materials for me to screen for how they can be improved, you can do that!
ALL THREE GUEST ARTISTS HAVE BEEN MADE OFFICIAL! SEE BELOW!

My Redo Policy:
Just so I'm very clear and so it's in writing, I want to go over my redo policy: I will let the kids redo pretty much any assignment at any time, as long as they have the initiative to come to me and ask for a redo.
Winter Concert:
Like I mentioned at Back-to-School night, we will not be having an in-person concert. It would be very difficult to have enough quality content to justify an in-person concert. So: we'll be doing a virtual choir. You can search for them (I would especially recommend the ones that Eric Whitacre does - I even have friends who have been in them) and you can see what we're going to do (but at a much lower level....that kind of quality takes months to make, and none of us have that kind of time, so please keep your expectations fairly low 😂. In all honesty, I love music technology so I'll probably spend way more time on it than is necessary). Because of privacy and legal reasons, I am going to follow the recording permissions that are available to us because of recording lessons online in Virtual Learning. If you have approved of your child being recorded and those recordings being posted, I will assume it is okay to use their recordings in the making of the winter concert. In the event that you prohibited your child from being recorded, but you would like to make an exception so they are able to take part in the concert, I am drafting a permission slip to have looked over by Mr. Dunn, so I have permission to include your child in the concert.
If you have questions/comments/concerns about anything else, please reach out!
All the best,
Megan 🎶
